Our projects

We run or support a number of projects. All of our projects fit in line with our priorities, which are always set by our members.

We're always open to new ideas and your help. Please contact us to let us know your ideas or any areas you want to focus on with our support.

#PlasticFreePrestwich

We've been working with the fantastic charity Surfers Against Sewage since 2021 to build a network of plastic-free communities across the UK.

The project involves supporting independent businesses to reduce or remove single-use plastics where they can, working with local groups and organisations to raise awareness of single-use plastics, working with the council, holding local events to raise awareness and celebrating the great work going on around us.

We know we won't be able to eliminate all plastics at a local level, but it's about supporting people to make the easy changes that aren't always obvious and raising awareness to call for national change.

Prestwich Village Regeneration

Prestwich Village is being regenerated by Muse.

We've engaged with our members, local groups, the council and Muse during the two consultations and continue to work with the joint venture as the works start.

We're asking that the regeneration is:

  • Built in a way that minimises impact on climate & environment.
  • Built to protect the community against climate & environmental changes into the future.
  • Building a community that supports all to adapt to new ways of living for a changing world.

We've produced a number of reports and assessments of the plans...

Warwick Street Green

We've been supporting local residents, Clean Team Prestwich and local councillors to protect and improve a small patch of green space since it was saved from auction & likely housing development.

For the last two years we've secured funding and have organised community action days to clean up the site, plant new shrubs & flowers, install a bench, lay a formal path, install bird & bat boxes and are in the process of securing Tree Protection Orders for the six mature trees on site.

We do this work in loving memory of Rob Trueblood, a resident who spent his life supporting community & environmental projects, and who first contacted us about the threat to this green-space.

Did you know - we're looking for more ways to support local rewilding & biodiversity. If you have an idea or can help, please hit 'contact us' at the top of the page!

Co-op seed & plant giveaway

In 2024 we used Co-op funding to give away wildflower and vegetable seeds, plus a range of perennial plants and trees to a range of people in Prestwich. We donated over 300 packets of seeds across four giveaway events in Prestwich in April, May and June.

We’re also working to gift plants, bulbs and seeds to a range of causes that do great work in the community: The Fed, Creative Living Centre, Friends of Gardner Mount, Whitefield Environmental Forum, Garden Needs, St Mary’s Flower Park volunteers.

We hope we’ve helped people to enjoy planting over summer, and provide extra pollinators and flora to Prestwich in the process.

Thank you to the Co-op for the grant!

    Prestwich Clough

We've been talking with United Utilities, Bury Council and Proffitts since the collapse of sewage pipes in the Clough.

Proffitts is a community interest company who are working in collaboration with Bury Council and the Veolia Environmental Trust to coordinate improvement works to the Clough and St. Mary’s Flower Park.

There is currently a programme of upgrades happening for footpaths, surfacing, and drainage. Damaged and missing fences will be replaced and some new seats and signs will be installed.

We also keep our members updated on the works, so be sure to join our mailing list...

    Active Travel

Our members asked us to focus on Active Travel in Prestwich. Since we were formed, we've worked with and supported the fantastic local group WalkRide Prestwich & Whitefield.

But we want to do more! We're a small group of volunteers and would welcome help, ideas, expertise or just time from anyone with an interest in this project.

    Air Quality

Our members asked us to focus on Air Quality in Prestwich. We're at the early stages of scoping potential projects we can do in the area. One of our fantastic members is working with the charity Mums for Lungs to see how 'school-streets' could work in Prestwich.

But we need your help! We're a small group of volunteers and would welcome help, ideas, expertise or just time from anyone with an interest in this project.

    ...and even more!

Our members have provided us so many ideas and told us where they want us to focus. We want to do more but we need help!

Currently we're looking to do more work around the following, but we're a small group of volunteers so please help us get these off the ground:

    • Reducing waste
    • Light pollution
    • Working with young people
    • Warmer homes

Help, in any shape, size or quantity, is very welcomed & appreciated!
